Shipping containers for home and backyard storage

For homeowners, a container is a steel shed that arrives finished: no build, no kit, delivered in one piece and ready to load the same day.

What we'd usually suggest

Size
20ft
Grade
One-trip if it sits near the house, cargo-worthy or WWT if it is out of sight

A 20 fits most driveways and side yards and gives you about 150 sq ft. Next to the house, the cleaner look of a one-trip box is usually worth it. Every site and budget is different, so tell us what you're storing and we'll say if another option fits better.

Tips that save trouble later

  • Check with your city or county and any HOA before delivery. Many places allow containers but have rules about placement, size or screening.
  • Set it on gravel or blocks, slightly higher at the door end, so rain runs away from the doors.
  • Add shelving down the long walls and keep a center aisle. Hooks on the corrugation lashing rings hold rakes and hoses.
  • Moisture is the main enemy of stored stuff. Vents and a few moisture absorbers go a long way, especially in humid climates.

Check before delivery

  • Overhead wires and tree branches along the driveway
  • Soft lawn after rain (trucks are heavy)
  • Narrow gates: the truck needs a straight shot to the drop spot

Questions people ask

Do I need a permit for a container in my backyard?

It depends on where you live. Some places treat a container like a shed, some have specific rules, and HOAs often have their own. Check with your city or county planning or zoning office before you order. We can tell you what to ask, but we cannot give you a legal answer for your property.

Will a container damage my driveway?

A loaded tilt-bed truck is heavy and a container concentrates weight on its four corners. Concrete and asphalt usually handle delivery fine, but thin or old pavement can crack. Placing boards or blocks under the corners spreads the load.
