Editorial Policy: How We Write Our Guides

Who writes them

Guides on this site are written by the Container Koala Team, the people who run Container Koala, and are shown with the byline "By the Container Koala Team". Guides are reviewed by Joe Pruitt, our Container Expert & Enthusiast.

What they are based on

Published standards. Container dimensions follow ISO 668, and shipping safety approval follows the International Maritime Organization's Convention for Safe Containers.
How container sales and delivery work in practice: what suppliers and carriers tell us they need, such as truck access, ground conditions and unloading equipment.
Our own process: what we check before we quote, and what goes into a written quote.

When a guide relies on a published standard or an official page, it lists it under "Sources" so you can check it yourself.

How we show numbers

Dimensions, weights and delivery clearances are typical figures. They vary by manufacturer, truck and site, and we say so on the page.
Price ranges are estimates and are labelled that way. Your exact price comes in your written quote.
The prices on our Buy a container pages are fixed prices, not estimates.

Dates

Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. When we re-check a guide's figures against its sources, we update that date.

Photos and illustrations

The photos and koala illustrations on this site show typical containers, trucks and sites. They are illustrative and do not show the specific container you will receive. When a supplier can photograph your actual unit, we send you those photos.

Corrections

If you spot something wrong or out of date, tell us through our contact page. We check it, fix the page if it needs fixing and update the review date.
