Container Koala

Container grade

Wind and watertight (WWT) used shipping containers

The budget grade. Retired from shipping, cosmetically worn, but keeps wind and water out.

An older used container with heavy rust streaks and dents but an intact roof and closed doors

What "wind and watertight (used)" means

Wind and watertight (WWT) means that when inspected, the doors closed and sealed and no daylight came through the roof, walls or floor. It is retired from shipping service.

WWT is where most farm and jobsite buyers land. These containers have done years at sea and look like it, but they are still steel boxes that lock and keep the weather out.

Grades are judged by the depot and are not a government standard, so condition varies from box to box. Ask us for photos of the actual unit; many depots provide them and we will push for them when we can.

What to expect

  • Heavy cosmetic wear: rust streaks, dents, mismatched paint
  • Doors that work, though they may be stiff
  • A floor that may be stained or patched
  • Keeps rain out when inspected

What it isn't

  • Not certified for shipping
  • Not chosen for looks: some are rougher than others
  • Some depots sell by grade only and do not offer a specific unit or photos

Best for: Farm, ranch and jobsite storage where looks do not matter and price does.

On delivery day, step inside, close the doors and look for daylight. That's the simplest wind-and-watertight check there is.

Typical delivered prices for this grade

Other grades

  • New / one-trip: Built new, shipped loaded once, then retired. As close to new as containers get.
  • Cargo-worthy (used): Used, but structurally sound enough to be judged fit to carry cargo when it was inspected.
