Container Koala

Farm and ranch

Shipping containers for farms and ranches

On a farm, a container is a fast, lockable building with no foundation work. Feed stays dry, tools stay put, and when your needs change you can have it moved.

What we'd usually suggest

Size
40ft or 40ft high cube
Grade
Wind and watertight

Out in a field, looks rarely matter and space does. A used 40 gives you the most floor per dollar. Every site and budget is different, so tell us what you're storing and we'll say if another option fits better.

Tips that save trouble later

  • Put it on a gravel pad or treated timbers so the floor stays out of standing water and mud.
  • Steel walls and a sealed floor keep most rodents out of feed, but check door seals and keep the doors shut.
  • Containers get hot in summer sun. A light color, roof shade or vents help if you store anything heat-sensitive.
  • Think about access year-round. A spot the truck can reach in dry weather may be a mud hole in spring.

Check before delivery

  • Soft or wet ground on the way to the drop spot
  • Low branches and power lines
  • Gates and cattle guards narrower than about 12 ft

Questions people ask

Can the truck drive across a pasture?

Often yes, if the ground is dry, firm and fairly level. Drivers will not risk getting stuck, so after heavy rain they may drop it at the nearest firm spot instead. Tell us about the route when you ask for a price.

Will a container keep feed dry?

A wind-and-watertight container keeps rain out. Condensation can still form inside in humid weather, so keep feed on pallets and consider vents.
